Game Restoration - Part 3 March 7, 2002 -Continued Playfield Restoration (Slow going!) If you're following along, I wanted to give you a quick update of what's happening. The playfield has turned into a worse problem than I had imagined starting out. What was supposed to be about a 30 day project is now into its fourth month... The problem started with my attempt to remove the slingshot Mylar with freeze spray. The Mylar had been applied after the playfield started wearing down, and the freeze spray removal method brought up a huge amount of paint. If you remember from part 2, I tried using a brush to repaint the black and the "asteroid" (rocks as I've been calling them) by the sling. The results were less than desirable to say the least. The paint underneath was already cracking, and the results had so many ridges I'd be afraid of how the ball would travel! I decided to take the
paint down to the wood as much as possible and try again. Here
is a shot after taking off the last try and sanding down to the
wood... |
